The children began their Christmas cake making adventure this week.  They experienced the smells of nutmeg, cinnamon, mixed dried fruit, orange peel, lemon peel, coffee, mixed spice and more. This week the children have been learning about multiples and factors.

We explored the different ways we can identify a multiple of 2,3,4 and 5.

This week in Reception we have been using our ‘maths eyes’ to look at small groups of objects and say, without counting, how many there are! The children have loved playing games to subitse. 

This week we have been exploring repeats in songs and stories. We have also been using objects and paints to make line patterns and repeated patterns. 

We have been exploring patterns and repeats.  Using stones and pebbles we made some firework patterns, carefully following lines, developing their visual accuracy and fine motor skills.  

This week Reception have been looking at numbers 1 2 and 3.  We sorted various ways of showing the numbers as class, the children then did in small groups before finally bring left to explore themselves. 

To consolidate our learning on addition and subtraction we played in pairs a game of Tic-Tac-Toe.

To place their counter the children had to solve an addition or subtraction.

This week we have investigated patterns in class.  The children loved making their own simple patterns using our every day resources.  

This week’s menu:

Starter:  Leaf Soup

Main:  Autumn Omelette

Dessert: Spider crispy cakes

Turn-taking, playing, mixing, stirring, speaking, listening, measuring, counting, experimenting = LEARNING!

The children used counters and tens frames to make number bonds to ten.

This week for maths we have been exploring length.  

We looked objects that were long and short and then went into the classroom and found other objects to compare.
