“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”

Our Goal
At English Martyrs, we aim to inspire a love for physical activity and sport in our students. We want to develop their confidence to engage in various sports and understand the positive impact on their physical health and mental wellbeing. Our goal is to nurture confident, resilient children who strive for their personal best, recognize their talents, and appreciate the success of others. We offer a range of active experiences and clubs based on the children's interests and needs, educating them and their families on living healthy lifestyles.
How we teach PE
Our P.E. objectives align with the National Curriculum, ensuring all pupils:
- Develop competence in a broad range of physical activities.
- Are physically active for sustained periods.
- Engage in competitive sports and activities.
- Lead healthy, active lives.
Our sequential lessons help students build and apply skills to various activities. Using the "Get Set for P.E." scheme, we ensure consistent and accurate teaching. Lessons are structured for children to develop and apply skills in games, sequences, or choreography. Knowledge organisers are shared to enhance understanding of key physical skills and concepts like STEP (Space, Task, Equipment, People).
Impact
Our PE curriculum involves children in evaluating and discussing their activities, helping them articulate their learning journey. A Pupil Voice questionnaire helps us review and adapt our Curriculum Maps to meet the children’s needs and interests. We use both formative and summative assessments, guided by "Get Set 4 P.E.", to monitor progress.
Expected outcomes for our students include:
- Exploring space and body movement to express ideas, moods, characters, or feelings.
- Proficiency in tracking a ball for various sports like tennis, hockey, rugby, netball, and rounders.
- Competence in working individually, with a partner, and as part of a team.
We aim to equip all children with the skills and mindset to succeed in sports and maintain healthy, active lifestyles beyond primary school.
