Learning the Recorder in Year 5!
Children in Year 5 started their instrumental lessons with Mr Lacey-Kiggins today as they started to learn about the recorder: how to begin to play it and how to begin to read music notation. For the remainder of the term, the children will be learning the basics of woodwind playing: breathing, tonguing and how to play/read a range of notes/rhythms.
Today, we focussed on playing the instrument correctly, holding the instrument correctly and playing (and reading on staff notation) the note B.
Once the children are familiar and confident with the first three notes (B, A and G), they will be able to take their instruments home so they can practice. Rehearsal materials will be posted on Google Classroom so the children will be able to practice their skills at home each week.
